a bit of the jargon

Criterium

A short race often lasting not much longer than 60 minutes. Criteriums are generally, held on tight street circuits about 1km in length. They are very popular throughout the European summer and are a mainstay of club racing in Australia.

Peloton

A French word which translates to English as “the bunch”.

During a criterium or road race, riders sprint for prizes on a designated lap or at a certain point in a race. There are often cash prizes or gifts donated by sponsors for the rider who wins the prime.

Wheel sucker

This is derogatory term for a rider who never does his turn on the front and is always “on the wheel”.  ( that's me, and might I say dam proud of it )
